Generative Grammar and Language Teaching: A Case Study of Cantonese Noun Phrase Acquisition by Mainland Tertiary Students in Hong Kong (2425-02)

This pioneering project explores the effectiveness of language teaching practices as informed by generative grammar within the local context. A core aspect of the grammatical development of Mandarin-speaking learners of Cantonese will be explored, with results of different types of language classes compared. The research outcomes are expected to inform Cantonese teachers in terms of curriculum design and pedagogy, which benefits mainland tertiary students and talents and professionals who want to master the community language in the long run.
