News Date:

The Department of Linguistics and Translation successfully held its annual event, Career Talks 2026 for BA LLA and MALS students on February 6 and 7, 2026, respectively. The two-day event provided a valuable platform for students to gain insights into professional pathways and connect with experienced alumni.

The series commenced with an introductory speech and a warm welcome from Prof. Niels O. SCHILLER, LT Department Head, and Prof. Suen Ceasar LUN then gave an overview of typical career paths for LT graduates and shared practical advice on job hunting, thereby marking an inspiring start to the new semester for students.

Hosted by Prof. Adel CHAOUCH OROZCO and Prof. Suen Caesar LUN, the events featured ten alumni speakers: four from the BA LLA programme (Candy LI; Stesha To; Vincent Ng) and six from the MALS programme (Sophia Wen; Kay Wu; Selina Shen). They shared their diverse work experiences and provided practical guidance on career planning and decision-making.

In recognition of the invited speakers’ generous contribution of time, experience, and insights, the LT department presented each speaker with a certificate and a commemorative gift set. During the lively Q&A sessions, students posed thoughtful and engaging questions, gaining invaluable feedback from the speakers’ real-world experiences. After the two sharing sessions, a networking lunch (for BA) and dinner (for MALS) at the CityU Chinese Restaurant fostered a cozy and friendly atmosphere, allowing students to interact freely with speakers and faculty members and to build meaningful connections within the LT community.

The events were graced by the presence of many faculty members, including Prof. Yuet Hung Cecilia CHAN, Prof. Xiu Jackie YAN, Prof. Bin LI and Prof. Winnie HO. The smooth running of the two-day event was supported by the department’s two research assistants, Miss ZHU Yuqing and Miss WANG Jingwen, with assistance from the LT BA Student Chapter.

Overall, the event has successfully promoted lasting connections between alumni and students and faculty of the department, fulfilling its objective of supporting students’ career development. To facilitate students’ continuous learning and review of the valuable content shared during the talks, the department has made the speakers’ presentation slides by clicking speakers' names, as well as photo albums and video recordings* available as below:
