Summer Learning Programme in France

2016-2017

Student Teacher
Mr. BOUVARD, Bertrand

The programme presents unique experience of studying and living in Lyon for a month which distinguishes itself from the rest intercultural activities. By participating in the programme, I was able to improve my French skills, understanding of French culture and society, and raise intercultural awareness. The program offers different options of accommodation, including homestay and international dormitory. I chose to stay in an international dormitory that offered me an opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world and learn French, our common passion together. The programme not only includes a tight schedule on learning French in the classroom that help use build a solid basis on writing, speaking, listening and reading, but also provides many cultural activities, including visiting Institut Lumière, excursions in and outsides Lyon, such as train trip to south France, Mont Blanc, which are invaluable experience.

During the one month stay in Lyon, I got the chance to not only learn the language, but also immerse in the local lifestyle. The course was not all books and exercises, but games and songs. The excursions were not perfect but really eye-opening and culture oriented, especially the wine tasting tour in a classic Chateau with the guidance of the passionate owner. Unlike the very common expectation of French people being cool, Lyon was a hospitable place, perhaps because of its nature of accepting multicultural backgrounds. I also adore the individuality and laid-back atmosphere of the place immeasurably.
