Abstract
Language politeness is an interesting subject for theoretical and practical studies. Since 1970’s, some significant researches have been made in this field by scholars from various parts of the world. Some new theories and methodologies have been suggested with the recent development in anthropology, psychology, pragmatics and other disciplines. In this seminar, the speaker will discuss a number of new models in terms of degree, mechanism, typology and maxims of language politeness. Some suggestions will also be made on the cross-cultural studies in the forms and usage of politeness in different languages.
