In this research seminar, eSpaceML is proposed as a specification scheme for annotating event-related spatial expressions in natural language. It adopts MITRE's SpatialML (2009) as a basic framework but goes beyond the treatment of toponyms and their topological relations. eSpaceML is extended to cover various types of link among space, time, and events. As a modularized scheme in a pivotal format, it is shown to be interoperable with other annotation schemes such as ISO-TimeML (2009) that deals with the semantic annotation of time and events.
Professor Kiyong Lee is currently visiting City University of Hong Kong as a Visiting Professor at Department of Chinese, Translation and Linguistics. He is Professor Emeritus of Linguistics, Korea University in Seoul and also convenor of ISO/TC 37/SC 4/WG 2 that aims at developing international standards for language resource management with its focus on representation schemes. He has served as President of the Linguistic Society of Korea and also of the Korean Society for Cognitive Science.
