Abstract
This seminar will focus on the procedures and principles of the practice of Scenario Translation for Dubbing (STD) in China in an attempt to exhibit the coordinating relationship among the primary procedures, e.g. script-translation, direction, dubbing and recording with voice–recreation as a core factor and voice—typification as a general strategy. There will a brief analysis of some basic concepts of dubbing translation in such aspects as its nature, function, academic identification and professionalism. Some STD movie strips will be used to show how this “art” works and how well it is accepted by the eyes and ears of the audience.
Speaker
Prof. Ma Zhengqi is currently Professor at Department of International Communication of Communication University of China, and Head of the Research Institute of Film and TV Translation and Dubbing. He received his BA from Beijing Foreign Studies University and MA and PhD from Communication University of China. His research interests include translation, cross-cultural communication and scenario translation for dubbing, and his teaching interests are intercultural communication studies, English reading and translation, and cross-cultural communication studies.
Prof. Ma has translated five academic books including Making New, Media Events and some 50 movie / TV drama scripts for dubbing and 600 episodes of TV serials with CCTV with another 500 episodes for Southeast Asia show. He has been awarded Dubbing Translation Excellence Award twice. He has published some 20 theses, and one book: Scenario Translation and Dubbing, which has been used as the textbook for undergraduates of the scenario translation and dubbing major at the Department of International Communication of Communication University of China.
