Abstract

Discourse analysis has gained considerable momentum in linguistics and translation studies in the past few decades. As an empirical approach to language, where actual data gathering and analysis are essential, discourse analysis has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of recent developments in science and technology. In this talk I demonstrate some of the technologies that can be employed in language research, focusing particularly on those that may be suitable for MA level research project design. Sample technologies include parallel text analysis tools for contrastive linguistic analysis and translation studies; concordance tools for research into meaning and grammar, and Web-based technologies for language research and teaching.
