Pedagogical grammars can be evaluated for their optimal conditions on a set of parameters such as: Exhaustiveness Generalisation Systematicity Consistency Simplicity Relevancy Efficacy This 2nd talk in the series focuses on simplicity. "Simplicity" as a measure or parameter will be investigated in greater details in this talk, which can be utilized to evaluate possible/competing pedagogical grammars of L2 Chinese and define the optimal nature of a pedagogical grammar. "Simplicity" is characterised as below: The simpler the terminology employed, the better. The fewer the rules to be applied, the better. The more integrated the system, the better. The fewer the categories in the system, the better. Each principle will be argued for on the basis of a number of syntactic structures and their possible analyses.
