Abstract

In Taiwan especially, most non-native speakers start learning English with a very limited vocabulary and basic lessons in grammar rules. While the pedagogy has improved during the last decade, when private publishers were allow to produce their own English textbooks for the classroom, progress has been limited for tertiary level learners primarily because an advanced learning scheme is lacking. This is made worse by what remains of the earlier learning habits as well as by the ubiquitous fear of second or foreign language that potentially incapacitates the speaker. My approach is to introduce confidence-building techniques in the learning process via demystifying foreign language learning and establishing clear learning models.
