In July 2003, four colleagues in the Department were successful in winning Competitive Earmarked Research Grant (CERG) funding of HK$3,973,000.00. The winners include Dr. KIT Chunyu, Assistant Professor awarded HK$816,000.00, Dr. PAN Haihua, Associate Professor awarded HK$1,056,000.00 (Project: A Semantic and Syntactic Investigation into Quantification, Eventuality, Focus and Modality --- with a Special Reference to Cantonese Post-Verbal Particles); Prof. WU Hung-I, Chair Professor awarded HK$861,000.00 and Prof. ZEE Yun-yang, Eric awarded HK$1,240,000.00. CTL continues to play a leading role in research in the areas of Chinese, translation and linguistics.
