Abstract 摘要
The importance of a sharable and reusable multilingual lexicon is underlined by the critical role of lexicons as human's interface to knowledge, as well as the practical needs for cross-lingual and multi-lingual access to knowledge. Hence such a structure is the focus of international projects such as International Standards for Language Engineering (ISLE). Multilingual lexicon structure is also the focus of a project dealing specifically with how language (and information) diversity can survive in the future web (i.e. the LanguageWeb project), as well as a new international standard (ISO/TC37/SC4/WG4). The speaker will provide his personal perspective on issues that will shape a standard structure of multilingual lexicons. Issues discussed include: The definition of lexical entry/lemma, Orthography, Directionality of the lexicon, and wordnet as a Linguistic Ontology. The purpose of this talk is both to inform and to get feedback such that our community will have a stronger and unified voice in the process of developing LanguageWeb and the ISO language resources/lexicon standards.
About the Speaker 講者簡介
Chu-Ren Huang is a research fellow at the Institute of Linguistics, Academia Sinica. He is the vice president of the Linguistic Society of Taiwan. His current roles in international research community include: advisory board member of the Open Language Archives Community (OLAC), and co-chair of the Asian Language Resource Committee.
Huang received his Ph.D. in linguistics from Cornell University in January 1987. Since then, he has played an active role to promote research on Chinese computational and corpus linguistics. He is one of the founding members of ROCLING and served both as its president and executive secretary. He has directed or co-directed the successful construction of the following Chinese language resources: CKIP lexicon, Sinica Corpus, Classical Chinese Corpora, and Sinica Treebank. The focus of his linguistic research has shifted from earlier work on GPSG and LFG to recent emphasis on lexical semantics, which led to the development of the MARVS theory. Both lines of research converge on his current work on developing an integrated Chinese WordNet and ontology. This will be an essential component of the linguistic anchor project under Taiwan's NDAP, as well as an important link in the global LanguageWeb in anticipation of the future Semantic Web.
